Remember to dress for the weather as we'll be outside most of the time. We do have a patio heater to add some warmth this year thanks to an awesome Christmas present from Chad and Mom C.

Saturday:

Two girls and about 10 guys showed up for the Winter carnival at Cristal Ridge. Conditions were less that desireable, but after a short ride around on the sticky slippery Alpha Trails, we headed back to do a couple of races that made for a fun day. The crit at the bottom of the hill and the hill climb. Both of which I came in second. Yes, I was second out of two, however, I was on my bike and having a fun time! I look forward to some cooler temps and more snow so we can head out on the trails again soon. This rain/sleet warm weather sucks at this time of year. Afterwards, we went out for a bite to eat with Russell and Dave D.

Sugs and I went home and he rested for a short while before getting ready to go out to the Midwest Mayham event at Hihat and Cream City Skate Park in Butler. I managed use my sewing machine again, (haven't used it since making the doggy's new beds) mending some winter bike pants for a friend. Then I took a nice nap and then worked on my paper for the rest of the night. It was nice having the whole, half of the house to myself!Sunday:
I met with my study partners from my "Culturally Competent Nurse in Today's Society" class. We went to a Spanish speaking Catholic Mass (although I'm Lutheran) downtown on 4th street. St. Francis of Asissi, followed by a visit to Elreys plaza and Lunch at Tagueria Buenavista on 60th and Burnham. All this was in preparation for our presentation this coming Thursday.

Now, it's on to Football! Gonna watch the Viking's vs Saints. Kris Allen is singing the Anthem, Time to go~!

The Art of Poi and Hooping

Yesterday was a day of new experiences thanks to friend Judi! What to do, what to do? the Tosa trails or go with Judi to Turner Hall for my first lesson in Poi and Hoop Dancing. Although I love riding my bike on the trails in Winter, the invite to go with Judi was intriguing. I decided it was good for me to try something different. I went, it was fun, and after, we went out for a bite to eat.

Us late? Not too late, however I'm sure waiting for us for 10 minutes in the cold feels like a long time. We're going to have to really work on this. We met up with a good number of friends and headed out on the snow packed trails of Tosa, a little icy in spots but for the most part, it was all good and an excellent workout. We went from Hoyt park to Hwy 100 by Currie park and back. Here are some pics of the outing. I loaded a video on FB. If you want to get dizzy, check it out!

After the ride, we were to go directly home to get some housework done before rollerderby. However, we were running out of FRS, so we decided to stop at the Vitamin Shoppe to pick some up. Well, what's next door??????? WASABI! After such a great ride, and not having enough for breakfast, we decided to get a carry out order of Sashimi for lunch.

So while waiting for our carry out order, we decided to have just a bit of Sake. The bartender spiced up the hot sake with some other alcohol and it was just the right thing to warm us up from our post cool down shivers of a fine bike riding day.

Next up...Roller Derby. That's after, we get the tree down and clean for a bit. Yes, I said clean, imagine that!

It was a great day for snow shoeing. We packed down the Tosa trails hopefully enough so that we can start riding them again next week. Maybe Tuesday? We'll see. After our outing, we stopped at Alterra and had some warm drinks and lunch with Jamie since she just finished her shift!

We started at Bubba's at 6:30, rode to the village and met up with some more peeps at Cafe Hollander. We rode two laps in Hoyt and then headed out through the Tosa trails to the Harley Trails. This is where I ducked out of the ride a bit early. I had a great time, but turned back and went through the Bubba trails on the west side of the river. Talked with Julie for a bit while the others finished the Harley trails. These trails are dialed to perfection! Fast and fun and an excellent workout for me.

I'm looking forward to next week already.

Fun ! Team Extreme Style

Yesterday marked the end of season for Team Extreme. A partay it was! The gathering started at the Timm's house and the party started with a team ride from their house to the bugline heading weat to somewhere in Waukesha and back. When we got back, we had a few snacks, changed and got ready for the "Big Wheel" race, where everyone on the team had a chance to get the fastest time to win. This was so fun and funny! I finished 2nd of the women racers. My time was even better than Sugs, now that's a first. Then there was the raffle, we both scored on carbon fiber water bottle cages.

Success and Excuses

Sugs and I were having a conversation in the garage last night after he got home. He was showing me how to "correctly" do some basic things with my Paragon, like taking on and off my wheel. I have to admit I have taken for granted the fact that my Hubby is a biker and that he just takes care of my bike for me! That's got to change. I had some problems out on a ride yesterday and felt helpless. Sugs offered to give me a few lessons.

This is the first year with Disc Brakes and without racing/riding much this year, it was never a problem. But now, as I gear up for the winter training and riding, it was good to get a lesson. Thanks Sugs! when can we arrange my next one? I'll meet you in the garage.

While getting my lesson about the bike, we also got to talking about making Excuses and Success, realizing that if you are going to make excuses, you will never have success, and vice versa, they do not go hand in hand!

No more excuses from me! I have a plan to maintain a positive perspective, keep a focus on doing the right things and rising above the distraction of the everyday events.

Ultimately this will help me keep the focus on what my life is about and what I want it to be.

My Fun Day!

Today was a day of pampering. It started with a good workout at the gym.

Then off to the salon! It was everything I needed and almost everything I wanted.

Looking forward to seeing Sugs tomorrow. I'm sure there will be many stories from his adventures of doing the Iceman!

Next year, this race will be in my plans. Along with a promise to Sugs that I will take the bus to get the truck! Lots of training to do over the Winter months.

A Day at the Pfister

Halloween Night

It sure was chilly, or should I say downright cold Saturday night. However, we managed to stay warm and have a great time despite the low temps. Some pics are below. There aren't very many as I didn't pick up the camera until later in the evening.

The food everyone brought was excellent! We had a great turnout of friends and family.

Weekend of Firsts

First time in Door County!

We had never been to Door County and although the season is just beginning there, we arrived to find many of the establishments open for business. We had dinner at the Wild Tomato Wood-Fired Pizza and Grille and breakfast at Julies Park Cafe and Motel both highly recommended.

First weekend of Camping for the Year!

Although we ate out a few times, we roughed it camping in Penninsula State Park. Well, it wasn't like we were really roughing it. We had electric to heat up our tea in the morning and were able to plug in the heated mattress pad for the back of the truck. The bathroom and shower facilities were very near to the campsite. I would probably say, these were the best accomodations we've ever had camping.

First attempt and completion of the Door County Half Marathon!

Our time wasn't the best, (Sugs and I ran together), but we finished and we weren't last. The best part was running accross the finish line at the end in under the goal of 3 hours, check out the results. Sue B. and Lynne S. from the bike team did the race too, in awesome finishing times (2:17 and 2:21). Here were my Ipod sensor results-I started it a while before our race started, but I still need to calibrate it. It's off in distance.

The worst part which still wasn't awful, was some of the pain during the run. Like I said on facebook, this is one of those times I had to say to myself " Suck it up, buttercup?<> and move through it. Although, I feel pretty much like pre race condition and hopefully, not adding further insult to the hip injury that I had 1 1/2 weeks before the race.

Would we do it again? It's May 1st, 2010. Put it on the schedule baby!

Car Back, Shoes Gone!

It's been so long since I posted on this blog! Facebook has taken over most of my computer time. I probably don't even have visitors anymore, but here's what we did on our snowy Saturday night!

Most of you know, last Tuesday, my car was stolen from my work parking lot. Well, last night about 11:30 we got the call that it was found. They even got the guy who possibly stole it by tracing his snow footprints up to a house. Here's how the story goes:

It was interesting, there was a nearby armed robbery at a seafood store, and when the officer was investigating the crime by driving around the neighborhood looking for suspects, he asked a few guys on the street if they saw anyone running or looking suspicious in the past half hour or so. Well, while the officer was talking to these couple of guys who didn't see anything, he noticed that nearby there was a running car with no one in it. After looking in the window he found that the ignition was punched out on it, so he ran the plates, and WALLAH, it was a stolen car, MY CAR! So, since it was snowing, there were footprints from the drivers side of the car up to this house on the same side of the street. The officers approached the people in the house and ended up taking four into custody for theft and possible armed robbery.
We of course, went to the scene to avoid my car being impounded(which I heard was very expensive) by the police. Just as we were getting ready to leave, the thing ran out of gas, so here we are in the middle of a crime ridden neighborhood, (with the cop still there, thankfully) running to the gas station,(accross from where the armed robbery was) buying a gas can, filling it up with gas and then taking it back to the car....Only to then have the thing not start again because after several attempts to start it with the screwdriver the battery died(maybe there is something more serious wrong)... Now what?

The cop gave us a number of a tow truck person and he had to go, we told him that we were okay, so he left. Now we're sitting in the truck, behind my car, without the cop, waiting for the tow truck. This made me nervous, but of course Rob was calm and collected, aside from the fact that he was tired, wet, cold and disgusted.

Well, within 5 minutes or so, the tow truck pulled up. One hundred dollars later, we have my car back, looks physically undamaged from the outside, but has interior damage. My smiley face from my rear view mirror is gone :( my nike plus running shoes an iPod sensor are gone, some miscellaneous papers are gone, but it's back and my road(spin class) shoes are back too.

We'll just have to figure out on Monday what the next step will be. At least I have my little red rental to cover me until my car is back to normal.

A Tough Climb on a Tandem

It's so cold out even the dogs are trying to find warmth anywhere...During the day today, the sun was shining in the house, and Wylie, (who never, I mean never, goes on the couch) was caught in the act trying to keep warm... I couldn't bring myself to tell him to get off from there. He did leave his hind legs on the floor so he knew he shouldn't be up there at all, but somehow he just couldn't resist the temptation.

There are several events that I'm looking forward to competing in, like this one and this one and then this series and at least this triathlon too.

Any suggestions on how to keep motivated through winter temps like the ones heading our way?

All I'm going to want to do, is leave work, get home as fast as possible and put on my warm fuzzy slippers and curl up on the couch after eating dinner....but what I need to do is contintue to go to the gym right after work, get in the pool, swim, run, spin, on alternating days.

And maybe stop at some places on the way back, (Johnson's Creek, Kohls, etc.....). Sugs will be so excited to hear of the extended plans for today!

"Discovery, National Body Challenge"

For the third year, I've joined the "Discovery, National Body Challenge". I really like the fact that you get a 30 day Bally's workout pass. It's free, it used to be for 12 wks, but I'll take 30 days. The gym I belong to doesn't have a pool, so this will work out perfect. So far, the treadmill and weight training with some indoor training on the cyclops has been working well. I should be getting outside for my workouts, but haven't yet....I must be getting wimpy, the excuse has been, "I'm waiting for it to warm up a little."

We plan on taking the tree down this weekend, and the decorations. That will also entail cleaning the house which really needs to be done! Hopefully da Sugs will pitch in a little of his expertise.

I don't want this day to end, it has been a wonderful 4 days off from work and I wish there could be 4 more just like it!

I start call on Monday thru the following Monday(my first time). Hopefully we won't get any complicated cases. Dr. Dave, I may be calling you for advice, so don't get too snookered up :) on New Years Eve.

Rob may also have to work New Years Eve, so we opted to not have a New Years Eve Bash as we were originally thinking. We are planning to reschedule the Hofmann's Trails party though, very soon. Watch for an E-invite soon.

Christmas Letter- 2008

Christmas came early for us this year. Our gift to each other was throwing our 25^th Anniversary party. What an amazing day it was with over 100 of our family and friends spending the day together. It was 8 months after our real “25”, however, we were sure that no one would have showed if we would have had an outside Anniversary party at the end of January. Thank you to all who made our day special.

With biking this year, Rob raced in all 12 of the WORS races and pretty much was in the series run for the top 3 in his category for most of the season. I did only a few WORS races, but hope to do more next year. We raised money for the MACC fund research center, doing the TREK 100. It was pretty fun, but as the ride was ending, the weather turned and they ended up cutting short the post race festivities. Soon after this ride, I participated in the Danskin Triathlon raising money for breast cancer research. We again competed in the 24 Hours of 9 Mile MTB race as a 24 hour duo team and placed 4^th out of 17 teams. In our category, most of the other teams were male/male, so we were pretty happy with our results. Then came the Chequamegon 40 mile up in Cable WI, we finished, but conditions weren’t the best, as this race ended in the rain. This race was in combination with our vacation this year as we rented a cabin for the week on a lake. We went kayaking, boating, casual biking and had several days of pure rest and relaxation. Some other times away from home were spent visiting Mom C. Up North, either before or after our racing in the area.

We’re both keeping busy with workouts this winter so we can enjoy the race season again next year. Rob’s been snowshoeing with the dogs in our winter wonderland (he has almost 3 miles of trails built out our back lot) and I joined anytime fitness center to train for a half-marathon coming up in about 20 weeks (in May, in Door County).

I’m happily employed now at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Milwaukee Medical Center since February. It’s almost a year already. It was a hard decision to make after working over 24 years at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I’m still in the Gastroenterology division which made for a very easy transition into a new position. Presenting in Richmond, VA last month was the highlight of my work year as I was able to teach others the knowledge I’ve gained over many years of work in the Division of Gastroenterology.

Rob celebrated 10 years at Johnson Controls. They held a very nice reception for their employees with anniversaries 10 years and over at the Pfister Hotel a few months back. It was a nice event and was much appreciated. With the changing economy, they have cancelled the annual holiday party that was usually held at the Midwest Express Center this year.

As I write this year’s letter, Wylie and Buster are outside playing in the snow. I can see them though the patio door, they are enjoying every minute of it. Our cat Carlie rarely comes downstairs from the upper level of our house but because the doggies are outside, I see her sneaking down to the main level, this is very unusual.

Tonight, is tree trimming night and then it’s time to get ready for cookie baking. This tradition has been going on for many years now; we always have snacks and Mimosa’s for us busy bakers and of course we never burn a batch….lol, right.

Chad and his girlfriend, Kristin are teaching at Messmer and Cudahy High Schools, respectively. They are busy teachers, and have both taken on Coaching roles outside their primary responsibilities, (Chad is head Baseball coach and Kristin is coaching Volleyball), so we don’t see them as often as we would like. We are looking forward to spending more time with them as Christmas time arrives.

Each year I sit to write this note, I often wonder what to write about but what is most important is said in one sentence here at the end.

Tonight was the 2nd workout on the trainer since I started the new workout routine.
35-40 minutes on Tuesday's and Thursdays, with the M-W-F run/walk series. So far, so good. I'm looking forward to stepping it up, however, it stays the same from wk 1-4. Yesterday marked the start of the 2nd week. It appears to be that I'm making it thru the tough part of getting into a set routine. One more week of this and I should be hooked. Problem is, there aren't enough hours in the day to do all that needs to be done. Well, this, IM'ing and face book have been taking more time than I can really afford, so I've decided to use the blog as a journal for my training with short and sweet posts and limit my time on face book to about 15 minutes.

Today at the gym I did what the training schedule called for:
5min warm up
3min run followed by 2 minutes walk for 7 repetitions
during the 3min runs I stayed between 5 and 5.5 mph
during the 2 min walks I cut back pretty far to 2.5-3mph
2min cool down
I made it just about 3miles

So to wrap up the M-F workout routine:

M-W-F run with the above schedule
Tues and Thurs- Biking on the trainer for 45min at moderate pace

I think I might rest both tomorrow and Sunday as the tree needs to be bought before heading to the Pabst.

The highlight of the day? I've made it through 4 whole days of my training schedule.

This weekend is Morgan's (my Great Neice/Godchild's) birthday party.

We're going to take my Neice, her kids and Mom C. to see "A Christmas Carol" at the Pabst.

Should be a good time.

Half Marathon

Yesterday marked the start of a 20 week training program to compete with Sue and Lynne in a Half Marathon right before the WORS season starts in Door County. I think Chad's girlfriend may also do it as they now have a treadmill.

I'm really excited to participate in this event. But more importantly, I'm looking forward to getting my ass back in shape!

We may lay to rest our 2004 Dakota tonight due to a frozen, (I mean really frozen) transmission. Sugs had it towed in and found out to fix it would cost about 3600.00 to repair, so we decided to check out a deal on a new one instead. Possible employee pricing and a decent trade in amount for the truck, we're checking into buying new instead of fixing the old.

Then, Sugs broke a tooth today too. So, ya think I should trade him in?*

Busy Weekend

After getting back in town after Midnight Friday, and getting a so so night's sleep. It was up to the crack of dawn getting things ready for the Hofmann Weekend Family get together. Sug's Sister, neice and great neice were coming in town for the weekend and staying at our place. It was nice to see them as it's been a year since we saw them last, when we went on our trip out to Estes Park, CO.

We unfortunately missed the Team Extreme Partay, on Saturday. Sounds like it was a good time with good company and awesome food.

We had dinner reservations at the Fox n Hounds Saturday, so didn't have to cook that night, but on Sunday, we had everyone over for a chili dinner during the football game. Chicken and Vegetarian Chili, some homemade Italian bread with Salad was served. Since Little Lilly turned "1", Mary made some delicious cupcakes for desert.

Went back to work today, but tomorrows Veterans Day, so...... I'm off work, yes! Maybe I can catch up on some needed sleep and then go out and get some leaves off the grass.

Mom C. came home today too. It's nice to see her again. After working in the yard, I'm hoping to spend some time with her.

Back from Richmond

What a nice city. It would have been excellent to visit and tour around looking at the historic buildings and such. However, with spending 2 full days at the University Hospital training the RN's, it left little free time. Here are a few pics of the area while I was walking to and from the hospital to my hotel. The Berkeley hotel (where I stayed) is supposedly "Haunted." The two Dr's that asked me to fly down took me to dinner on Thursday night to the chain restaurant "Cheesecake Factory". Oh well, it wasn't the place that was important, it was the company. I had a great time.

Leaving today, back on Friday

Destination is Richmond, to train a few nurses on Motility testing.

Brought along the workout clothes. Trying to start my fall/winter training. Hmm. it's not always easy, keeping at it.

Anytime fitness is having a 10 day free pass, I'm thinking about joining there, or Bally's. Both are very close to home.

Sure glad it was nice today, heard that it will be crappy when I get back.

Randy, Erica & Tessa, MBF Kim and Sugs and I had a good time tonight. We started with Trick or Treating, then dinner and a campfire. Now we're just relaxing watching the news.

With Halloween gone now, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. I actually heard them playing Christmas music on 99mix already. Not that I have anything against Christmas music, but isn't it a bit early?

There's really no question in my mind of who I'm going to vote for, and I'm not saying it's over for McCain/Palin, the polls could become and most likely will tighten up and the Republican party may win.

My upbringing was in a Democratic household and for the most part, I have held to this party in my adult years, this is no secret. It's not that I've never voted for another party, and it doesn't mean that I will never vote for another party again, but my mind is made up on who to vote for for the next four years.

Dinner out with Friends

Tonight we (John and Lynne and Rob and I) took Randy and Erica out for their "5th" Wedding Anniversary. We were a little late, as it was back in September. Tessa came along with her Mom and Dad and was so fun to be with, especially after dinner. She was giggling and playing around with all of us. We went back to AGAVE', and was very good.n We wanted to sit on the patio, but there was a party that was out there taking up most of the area where the fireplace was, so we opted for inside dining.

We're looking forward to the last race of the year and I can't wait till the fun night rides occur.

This is the best time of year. Hopefully we'll have a nice long Autum/Fall season before we head into winter.

Sug's Land

Yesterday, was fun spending the day away from the house, although there was plenty I could have been doing at home like, laundry, cleaning, shopping for the upcoming week, dishes, and a bunch of other chores. I had a great day spending it with my sister, mother-in-law and BF Kim. Got the oil changed in my car, went to Dena's Chocolate store in Jackson, helped fix a computer and then went to Kim's to watch the Brewers game in Hartford. She made dinner, so I didn't even have to cook. Called home to Sug's and said, either come out to Kim's for dinner or your on your own. He opted for being on his own as he was still playing in the yard and out back.

No biking this weekend, but Sugs spent all day yesterday out back with the neighbors extending the Sugarland trail system. The fall/winter riding should be pretty awesome back there not to mention if we get a lot of snow how fun it will be to do some snow shoeing again. (hopefully that's a way's off though).

Today, we spent some time outside until the rain started. Hibiscus are all planted in pots ready to come in for the winter (I hope they live) also got some yard stuff packed and put away.

Since there was no cooking in the house yesterday, tonight there is Cornish hen/squash/salad and rolls planned. It's probably on the verge of burning in the oven as I write this post. So, in any case, I better go check it out.

Wolf River Race

Second to last race for the season, but not in it's rating; Sugs review, on scale of 1-10, he rated it a 5, stating that it has a lot of promise for the future. It was tough, but that was good.

I decided not to race after the pre-ride yesterday and that's okay 'cause I spent the time out on the course cheering for everyone back by the river and helped Lynne (who was volunteering as course marshal for the day) give the heads up that there was a sharp left and climb up the hill just ahead.

Taking a hike/run through the woods and settling in by Lynne was a good idea. Being out on the course turned out to be exciting despite my non participation in the race. The spot on the course was perfect to see the different skill levels and abilities. The only problem though, was that I didn't bring the camera. (Some good Pics by Dave and Caren, here and here)

Single Speed Again

As the MTB race season comes to an end, I've decided to get the RIG out on the trails and work these legs into shape, along with the rest of me. After riding tonight, it came to me that it should have never been put aside this season. Looking forward, my plans are to ride it for the Sheboygan race and possibly in Shawano too. We'll see if I can keep riding this next week and feel comfortable enough to race it next weekend. The thing I miss the most about this bike is the 29 inch wheels. Part of the trails we rode tonight were a little rough as they haven't seen many riders, but the bike sure rode over the logs, bridges, branches, roots and in and out of gullies nicely. We were out with about 8 guys from Metro/Hayes and Extreme. The ride started at 6 and we finished at 8. Only one, well actually two flats on one of the guys bikes back to back. Other than that, it was a beautiful evening to get out and ride. Much better than being a couch potato....

Chequamegon Week

What a week! This was a good time to take a vacation:

After Rob finished the Rhinelander race with decent results and I DNF'd (wasn't feeling well) we headed up to Hayward for some rest, relaxation and riding before the race.

Sunday night, we settled in and didn't do much of anything.
Monday, we went for an awesome ride with the dogs on these trails.
Tuesday, we went for a row in the boat across the lake and thru the channel to another lake and then under a bridge to another lake. We took the dogs with us and ran into a few loons on the way (video to come soon). Then Rob took the kyak out after lunch with Wylie (pic above).
Wednesday, we rode the birkie and took some shortcuts to fire tower hill with the owner of the resort and his doggie Oriole.
Thursday, it rained and everyone else from the team started to arrive at the cabins. We went into town for some coffee and lunch and surfed the net
Friday, after going out for breakfast, the gang of guys went riding. I stayed back at the cabin and started to prepare the lunch for when they all returned. Then some of us went to Telemark to pick up our registration packets while others stayed back, deciding that it would be more economical to pick up their packets in the morning at the start.
Saturday, Randy and John got up at the crack, well maybe it was before the crack of dawn to put the bikes in place for the start. Just as they arrived back to the cabin, I started some breakfast for us. Although, they were serving breakfast at the big house, we were scurrying around in and out of you know where, and trying to keep our nerves settled. So, needless to say, we had breakfast in our own cabin race morning.

In the group, there were no broken bones, (except for Lynne who we really missed, she was home healing her broken collar bone from an earlier crash), everyone finished, some very pleased, some not so pleased and for those who were out there in the rain it was a pain, but all in all a good day for all. As soon as I crossed the finished line I was thinking how different I would like next year to go. Sure hope that our entry gets picked again next year.

This guy and Dan from the Hayes team were very generous in letting us take showers, at their condo and for giving us some beers, pizza and cookies after the race. It was much appreciated, especially with how wet, muddy and cold it was.

Thanks goes to this guy for his organization skilz, and to everyone at the Manor house for dinner Friday, breakfast Saturday and Sunday. It takes a lot to plan for over a dozen peeps. The meals were excellent! We stayed in the blue cottage and did the lunch for all on Friday. This guy and this other guy are responsible for da Sugs and I having some good leftovers from that lunch to eat tonight when we got home including fruit, beer, veggies, sub toppings etc......

Here are a few pictures from the week. I wanted to take more at the race, but the camera was in my bag that I wouldn't see again until the end of the race. By then, it was pouring rain and wasn't about to start taking pics at that point.

Smokin' Spoke to Cheq Fat Tire Fest

Question: Do we need to take these plants in for the winter? We planted them about a month ago and they have bloomed so nicely but we're thinking they won't survive a Wisconsin winter.

We're looking forward to some back to back racing and riding the next 10 days. We'll start at Smokin Spoke and then head to the Cheq. fat tire fest. With a much needed vacation in between.

This is my favorite time of year when the Summer season is wrapping up and the Fall season is beginning to peek it's way in. We went for a walk on the trail out the back yard the other night and caught the last bit of sunset in this picture below.

Challenger

My first car, it was a 74 'Cuda. Candy apple Red, with black flames. 318 automatic with a slap stick shifter. I loved that car but sold it when Chad was born in 83. It wasn't a good family car. Now, 25 years later, there's the new car, the Challenger. I really love it and would really like it, but it's 50,000 bucks. It has a Hemi, very nice lines and awesome interior. Modeled after the original.

BABGHAP

"The Belated All-In-One Big Gig Housewarming & Anniversary Party" (aka Shindig) or BABGHAP has come and gone!

Thank You to all who were there to share the day with us. That HUGE bottle of Champagne from our biking friends will be opened at the last race this year.

We didn't get to take many pictures as it was a busy day. But my sister did get a few, like the one with me in my wedding dress. She had been storing it for me at her house all these years. How funny, it fit! The next pic was from our wedding.
During the day everyone was asked to draw some pictures on a bag so we could put some sand in the bottom with a tealight candle and light them as luminaries at night. Here's a sample of how they turned out, this one, was done by Brandon, our nephew. There were about 15 of them lining the front of the house at night. Mostly, the kids took part in this activity which gave them something to do during the day.

This was at the beginning of the party with guests starting to arrive. My nephew Rich and niece Sheila were in this picture as well as Rob's Mom and niece in the background at the bar and Kim and Erica on the other side of us.

More guests starting to arrive. In total 120 people stopped in. We really had a wonderful day and couldn't have asked for better weather or company!

Maybe some more pics will roll in from other family or friends, if they are post worthy, you may see a few to come.

Candy and I have been planning on having a big gala housewarming/25th Anniversary (plus a few birthdays rolled in) Party for a while; we've been waiting until we got the new shack fixed up and the cash rolled in to fund the event. Since those things are never actually going to happen, we decided to have "The Belated All-In-One Big Gig Housewarming & Anniversary Party" (aka Shindig) or BABGHAP for short, this Saturday August 16, 2008.

Russell is keeping the guess list for us, click here to see who he has on the list. This gig will be attended by family*, friends*, neighbors* and of course, bikers* of all ages, sizes and nationalities.
*Though quite odd in nature, these bikers of the "non motorized" variety, are generally well mannered and do play well with others...even children. Actually, they have very much in common with children as children are almost always bikers when they're young but the unfortunate one's grow-up to be regular* people when they get older.

Slow Ride, take it...
What? Huh, what did you ask? "Will there be any bike related activities", well da sugs knows what's important and instead of cleaning and fixing stuff for the shindig, I built the Sugaland Trails System. And since we does not wants yawl getting all hot sweaty, dirty, bloody or knocking teeth out and stuff, we decided to have a RACE...of the SLOW variety. Bring your bike, as long as your wheels keep a turnin' (no track stands or you be DQ'd) slowest lap time with the least dabs wins!

If that isn't enough to come on it's own...we also will be burning things and the caterer promised to leave us "enough beer".

Where's this gig at you ask? If you have ever ridden down River Road in Brookfield you were a set of railroad tracks and the recycling center away from this gig. Edited/deleted: Can't call anymore this gig is over!

If this post offended anyone, you have my apology now but show-up for the shindig anyway, so that you can be offended in person.

Going Back to Work

I was going to take the whole week off, but I wasn't sure about how many vacation hours I would have built up for Cheq. Fat tire fest.

So, back for Thursday and Friday. The weekend should come quickly.

We decided it was more important to hang around the house than to head up to Marquette this weekend. Although it would have been nice to see Dr. Dave, do the O2S and have fun up there we are going to stay home. Sugs will most likely do Sunburst, I'm considering that or a tri in Hartland, or taking the weekend off.

Race Recap

Sugs Says,

Imagine, 16 teams in the Duo Open with only 3 being coed...between midnight and 2 AM, everyone checks their standings, thinking, "well, that coed team is no threat, let's get some sleep and come back strong in the morning; they'll sleep too". We lulled them into sleep and applied our philosophy of "slow and steady wins the race". Well maybe we didn't win but I bet we sure shocked about 6 teams when they woke-up in the morning. Candy was able to get some sleep after she finished her lap at 01:16 AM and I was hoping she would have been rejuvenated enough to pull 2 laps when she started at about 05:48 AM. As long as she finished before 10:07 AM, I could have been able complete another lap for 14 total. She wasn't feeling it and had her "bad lap" for the event and could not go back out for her second. I was at the transition area when she finished at 07:48 AM, prepared to give her what she needed for another lap or ride two more laps myself. So, I took off as soon as she said she was done. Fortunately, none of that mattered me doing only 1 more lap gave us 13 laps and with our completion time was all that we needed to clinch 4th place. 3rd place was out of reach with 15 laps. A 4th place finish was fantastic! 3rd would have gotten us a podium shot (picture) and a jersey but oh well.

My "bad lap" came with my 2 laps, the first starting at 7:14 PM, the second starting at 9:11 PM with the second being my "bad lap". It got dark during the first lap and that is when the bad lap started. Seems during the race prep of making sure that our batteries for our lights were charged well, that somehow I forgot to pack my helmet light. With that being said I had to borrow a light from our wonderful team mechanic, support chief and fantastic friend Randy. Randy always boasts about his fantastic HID lights, he told me "once you use these you will not go back to your old lights" (our lights are truly "old"). Anyway, not this night; these lights created a brilliant "white" light...so brilliant that they blinded me and offered no depth perception which was extremely bad on a very technical and rocky course. Needless to say, I spent the majority of that second lap rolling on the ground. Battered, bruised and bloody, I still turned a 2:06 lap time. You would think I would have been smart enough to slow down seeing how I felt like I was riding blind; maybe I would not have spent so much time on the ground. The first aid station bandaged up an elbow and knee, so I was ready to keep pushing a long when Candy finished her lap at 01:16 AM.

I started a 2 lap run at that time; during the second lap, my light battery died with a little less than a half a lap to go. I fired up the useless emergency back-up light that we were required to carry and started looking for a wheel with lights that I could hang on to for the rest of the lap. First hooked on the back of a solo 24 hour guy but he had nothing left and was moving at a snail's pace. He crashed and I rode through a really technical and rocky climb and sat up waiting for the next wheel to come by. It was a girl named Heidi Godsil and she was a perfect lifesaver. She was doing Championship Duo Womens; she kept a strong pace that was probably as fast as I could safely go while using her light from behind her. I could not thank her enough!

Needless to say, I never slept. After breaking our camping spot down, which was agonizing as my body did not want to bend over to pick things up any more; we finally pulled into a hotel at about 1:50 PM Sunday to get some sleep.

Candy Says,

Strategy? Someone asked before the race. Hmm. I guess I hadn't even thought of a strategy, other than to ride and have fun and see what we could do against the other Duo Open racers. My goal in the long run was to not flat, ride steady and try to pull as many laps as possible without hurting myself. 1st lap was strong, the 2nd and 3rd laps were hot, back to back! 4th lap was fun (cause I wasn't doing 2 back to back and I love night riding) and lap 5 was awful...(nausea, cramps and no coordination). I wanted to go out for another, but I was afraid of hurting myself, so I turned it over to Sugs.

We totally appreciated Randy, Erica and Tess for being there as support. Now we're spoiled! Randy, we expect you to do the race next year, so who's gonna be our support then?
You'll have to make sure to mentor someone through the winter to do a top notch job like you did.

Chillin Weekend

We got together with Randy Erica and Tessa for dinner (Japanica) Friday night as Randy was craving some sushi and then they joined us after for a campfire in the back yard. Cookie monster was also running about. We stayed out for a while, then came in the house as it was a bit humid and buggy outside.

Saturday we were invited to our friends Chris and Joann's house for their baby shower. It's great to see that they are going to become parents after so many years of trying! Their baby is due on Sug's birthday...although they would like her to have her own birthday, we think it would be cool if she was born on his Bday.

Today, Sugs worked in our backyard forest building the first leg of Tour De Sugs. It's looking pretty sweet. He should have a pretty good loop laid out for the party. He bought some tools for building trails which is making it much easier.

So while he was doing that, I went with my Niece and her two daughters to my Nephews house for his son's 2nd birthday. We had so much fun. So many little ones about. It's always nice to see the family. They even had a surprise pony show up to the party to give the kids rides.

It's time to relax now before heading to bed. Gonna check out stage 15 from Embrun, France to Prato Nevoso, Italy.

Finalizing Party Plans

Things are coming together for the party. Looks like we'll have Bunzels for our catering. We have secured a tent/chairs and tables. Oh, and one of these, as we are inviting over 100 people. Parking shouldn't be a problem as the business next door is usually closed on weekends. We do need to ask them yet, if we can use it. I think we'll also plan a bike event that day but we haven't really talked about it yet. We'll post the plans for biking soon. We may have a MTB crit course planned out our back yard by then.

There is no possible way to send out invites to all we know in the biking community. So, we will be sending out an email to the group sites and will post again on the blog. But if you know someone we know who doesn't have internet and you see them, could you spread the word? Thanks!

I Achieved my GOAL!

Not sure how I did with the breakdown or official time, but my goal to run the run, the WHOLE run was met! I'll post the breakdown once available. Wow, "It's another beautiful day", as my Dad would have said. Today's triathlon was sponsored by Danskin to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. There were survivors, first timers, all shapes and sizes, competitive ones and not so competitive ones, all women and women who have been inspired to participate in this awesome event. Next year's goal? Not sure yet, but I'm definitely going to do it again. Great job to Lynne, Sue, Susan, Sheri and Anna too!

Ore to Shore

Just found out today we can do the race Up Nort Der Hey in the UP, and that I can take the week off from work. YES! So it goes from 24x9 to the UP, back to back with no work in between....Sweet, I love the VA.

Gonna take tonight off from most physical activities and will try to prepare some things for the weekend Tri, make a decent dinner and work on some invitations to the Aug 16th party-that you're all invited to.

Sugs did take some pics from this past weekends race. Haven't had time to download them yet, but I'll try to post some of them later.

Six Days till Danskin Tri

Tonight Rob came out to do the run with me. At first I was a bit worried about him running with me, cause I knew he wouldn't even break a sweat, but when I made the whole 3 miles in approximately 39 minutes I was pretty happy he was along. My heart rate never broke 160 so I know my pace can be faster on Sunday, that is if I have anything left after swimming and biking first. My goal this year is to beat last years results.

Plans for tomorrow? Another run and swim, rest on Wednesday and a last light run on Thursday. Then I will Rest Friday and Saturday before the big event on Sunday.

I really didn't want to miss the WORS race this past weekend, but heading down to the tri course and doing the bike, run and swim there was probably a better plan.

4th of July Weekend

It's sad to see this extended 4th of July Holiday weekend come to an end. We've had so much fun getting together with friends, riding bikes, attending fireworks, jamming to some Reggae at Summerfest, going to the Crappy Bike Ride, me tri training in Pleasant Prairie and Rob racing in Eau Claire.

House Cleaning

Okay! I finally spent some time inside the house, cleaning. I didn't get my butt outside as I should have, to either ride, run or swim. Oh well! There's always tomorrow. However, I'm getting a bit nervous about the triathlon quickly approaching. July 13th is just 1 1/2 weeks away or in 11 days!

We're going to head up to the firecracker, I think, on Saturday but first, tomorrow we'll maybe venture downtown via bicycles for some fireworks and Summerfest. We're also gonna try to make it to the crappy bike ride festivities this year on Friday night.

Well, time for bed...this staying up past midnight everynight is starting to wear on us.

New Screen Tent

Cabella's Tent Sale

We scored a huge 18x20 screen tent on the way home yesterday from camping in the 50% off of the lowest ticketed price sale section. In bag, all pieces, no damage...It was listed as a floor model. Also a new air mattress for the back of the pick-up. The sale is going on through the holiday weekend so we may pop out there again.

Tonight Lynne and I rode over to Fox brook park for a swim *(5 laps) and then a quick walk/run around the park (1 mile) and then a bike back (3 miles round trip), took less than an hour and then Lynne rode off for home. 10 more miles home. Actually this means she did 20 miles round trip. She's doing awesome with training for our upcoming triathlon. We're going to try to get together again before the race.

We plan to commute tomorrow, it's supposed to be a beautiful day. If that doesn't work out we'll for sure get out after work for a ride and possibly another swim.

Vacation Recap

Our vacation started Friday night (June 20th) with a trip up North pass the Suamico race site and on to Boot Lake Campground for the night to drop off our stuff that we would need for the next week for camping following the race. Since Chad went up there on Wed. he was able to put up a tent for us to sleep in for the night so we didn't have to worry about it. However, we didn't settle in until after 3am as we stayed up by the campfire and talked and had some brews with Da Son. (family time!)

Sat. we headed back into Suamico for the pre ride (which was canceled) So we just set up camp and went with Rick and Liz to the Luigi's Italian restaurant-(excellent food and good company!) We even played a few video games before heading back to camp. Once there, we decided to hit the sack early since we stayed up way too late on Friday shooting the breeze with Chad.

We also received a belated gift at this race from the Holcom's through Rick and Liz. They have been holding on to it for a while but since we weren't around much last year we were presented with it this last weekend. Thanks for the drink glasses. They turned into our beer, tea, juice cups for the weekend.

Race day was also my birthday. I almost forgot until Chad called me and wished me a Happy Day. Then Kim called and then Randy, Erica and Tessa called SO there was no forgetting about my birthday anymore! A good workout was had at that race, although I didn't do so hot with my finishing time, I completed the race with 2nd place in age group and for points behind teammate Lynne (good job to you, Lynne!)

Sugs, he did fine, but his finish wasn't what he expected either. We must keep training and ride, ride and ride.

Monday through Sunday=working at ma's, camping, tubing, rafting, dining, campfire games, family time, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, running relaxing, visiting and so much more but here are some pics instead of me boring you with more details.
